Oh if you only knew how long it took to come up with the header and title for this little blog...It was exhausting.  So much so that it has taken me a whole week to write the first post.  In fairness I suppose the first post, just like the first of anything, is the hardest--right??  It gets easier--right??
I definitely have some, well, a lot of anxiety about my writing skills in general.  Spelling and punctuation have never been a strong suit of mine, and quite frankly I'm a bit out of practice with the whole writing thing in general.  Its been a while since I've been in school and let's face it texting doesn't really count towards real writing does it.
So why start this blog in the first place you might ask.  Because, just as the header claims life is a verb and to do any action requires a bit of stretching.  Putting yourself out there in the world is hard--a bit scary--but also rewarding and necessary.  When Lisa asked me to represent St. John's as the Outreach Director I was honored but also scared to death.  I knew I was in for a good bit of stretching.  While I have always tried to be involved in my community--especially with the service projects organized in partnership with my amazing sister in law Courtney Cross and our EYP youth group--I have never held any kind of official job title outside of Mom.  I am after all an introvert at heart.  I want to be active and connected to the world but can't I please do that from the comfort of my home, in my pajamas?!
The truth is I need you, my church family in order to be successful in my new job.  I need your encouragement, enthusiasm, creativity, and input on where you see need in our community.  It is my hope that together we can become a strong force for positive change and in doing so we will benefit our community and ourselves.  After all we are called to do this every Sunday--to love our neighbors as ourselves and to take our message of love and hope out into the  world not with preachy words but real, meaningful action.
This blog is designed to document all our attempts to stretch, grow and create positive change in our community both inside and outside our beautiful church.  Please let me know of events or projects that you are involved in and maybe we can join you--strength in numbers after all.  This also includes books you've read, movies, crafts, recipes, concerts, etc... There are so many ways to become involved and we have quite a few new members so I think its important for us to get to know each other better.
I have been a member of St. Johns for twenty years now (wow) and it has always been an important part of my life.  But I am more excited now than ever about the future of our church.  The energy here is palpable thanks in large part to our wonderful priest Lisa but also because of our diverse and compassionate congregation.  Together I really believe we can take action and make a real positive impact on our world.

And now I'm going to take a deep breath and push publish.  That's my verb of the day,                what's yours?
                                Peace,
                                      Karen
