The Grammar of Grace: Awakening to Sacramental Life
This  class meets in the second-floor Library in the Education Wing
In this class, we'll learn the grammar that allows us to recognize the divine presence woven throughout everyday Christian living. Wine, bread, water, and the world itself become the means of encountering God's grace. The deepest reward of sacramental living is the encounter of God's presence, given from the beginning, as if for the first time.

What is Godly Play?  We believe children don't come to us as empty vessels, waiting to be filled with facts about God. They come with something already shining inside, a divine spark, their own experience of God, that presence who plays hide-and-seek and peekaboo with all of us. Children don't want to know about God. They want to know God. What they don't have yet is language for it. That's what Godly Play gives them - a language of story, silence, wonder, and play.

On Saturday, October 11th, St. John's Clergy, Vestry, and Staff met for a day of reflection on where we are, and where we are being called to go, in our parish life together. 

The following shared values were identified through a series of exercises, stories and reflection: A community of faith Service to others Music and Liturgy Acceptance of people as they are Inclusion and welcome Justice and compassion.  Canon Mary Thorpe (our consultant), observed: "All of these values were undergirded by the sense that this is a parish that takes the baptismal covenant seriously and that they see their life and work as guided by love."  ​
